Pam Myhra’s Statement on the George Floyd Tragedy
(Burnsville, MN) – “The tragic death of George Floyd is truly appalling and immediately brought to mind past racial injustices.
I mourn the brutal loss of Mr. Floyd’s life and recognize the heartbroken grief in the community. It was shameful that some used this tragedy to further traumatize Mr. Floyd’s family and community through rioting, looting, and burning. It is the voice of mourners and the cries for justice that must be heard, not the screams of agitators.
Days of painful silence — at a time when we collectively needed to hear from the Governor and Minneapolis Mayor — left Minnesotans, particularly the most vulnerable communities, feeling abandoned. The Governor and Minneapolis Mayor’s days of inaction allowed agitators time to assemble to further terrorize Mr. Floyd’s family and community with even more violence.
All levels of our government share the key responsibilities of providing justice, promoting peace through law and order, and protecting the defenseless and vulnerable. I am deeply grateful to the many who work towards these goals and condemn injustice, lawlessness, and violence.”
